Axcess Accident Center has many treatment methods in our integrative approach in order to help you fully recover from whiplash. These treatments include chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, decompression therapy, and rehabilitation therapy because together these treatments can help you take the appropriate action and avoid more severe injuries. Each of these adjustments and therapies work in different ways to treat whiplash to address acute pain and reduce the risk of chronic pain.

What is the Axcess Approach?

The integrative treatment approach at Axcess Accident Center allows our chiropractors to ensure you make a full recovery after an accident. They bring their expertise and knowledge paired with the combined methods of chiropractic adjustment, massage therapy, decompression therapy, and rehabilitation therapy in order to give you the best treatment available. Everything we encourage you to do here at Axcess is to help you actually get better, and feel better so that you can get back to living your life, with minimal pain, and less worry about future injuries.

What is Chiropractic Adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is a specific and intentional, manual manipulation of the spine to help reduce pain and improve the physical function of the body. Correcting spinal and joint irregularities have a therapeutic effect and enhances your overall health. With whiplash, chiropractic adjustments are included in your treatment to realign your neck and spine after a car accident. Adjustments combined with other treatments in our integrative care approach will help you have optimal recovery.

What is Massage Therapy?

Massage is a widely accepted therapy used to manipulate the muscles and other soft tissues to relieve pain or muscle tension. This is done by applying differing pressures, movements, and techniques to the muscles or tissue to relieve pain and stiffness as well as muscle tightness, spasms, inflammation, and fluid retention.

If it is recommended by your chiropractor, massage therapy has many different styles including deep tissue massage and trigger point/myotherapy massage. These approaches use varying techniques to help increase the circulation of blood through your muscles. It also helps relieve any pain caused by your whiplash.

What is Decompression Therapy?

Nonsurgical decompression therapy is a kind of spinal therapy that is meant to help you, the patient, get relief from your neck and/or back pain. It works by gently stretching out the spine which in turn takes pressure off of the spinal discs. This gives the spinal and or neck discs the opportunity to receive water and oxygen that have otherwise been cut off to it. By releasing this pressure, our chiropractors are able to help whiplash patients strengthen their neck muscles and stabilize their neck. Decompression therapy is a great way for patients to make healthy structural changes in the spine.

What is Rehabilitation Therapy?

Rehabilitation therapy (more commonly known as physical therapy), is simply defined as specific exercises focusing on helping your muscles strengthen and support your body. It is our goal to help you return to full joint function in order to have a more pain-free daily life.

Our rehabilitation therapy sessions may include:

  • stretching,
  • balance exercises,
  • low-impact aerobic conditioning,
  • utilizing electric stimulation,
  • chiropractic adjustments and alignments,
  • endurance exercises,
  • temporary relief of musculoskeletal pain, and
  • strengthening exercises.

We use physical therapy because we know that sometimes getting chiropractic adjustments is not enough. The combination of chiropractic therapy and physical therapy not only helps loosen your joints and muscles but can also begin re-establishing and maintaining a good range of motion.

What can I do?

Whiplash treatment is a two-way street. While our chiropractors will give you the best treatment that they can, there are also some things that you can do to help your body heal.

These include:

  • Rest. It is important to take some time to relax. Your neck muscles are under a lot of strain throughout the day and it is good to give them some time to heal. However, you shouldn’t overdo it. There is no reason to stop being active as long as you take it easy while doing so.
  • Ice and/or heat. For the first couple of days, ice and heat can be applied alternately to help reduce any swelling and even some of the pain.
  • Over the counter painkillers. This is not a cure but if the whiplash gets too painful, over the counter painkillers could ease or mask your pain. They should be taken as directed on the label and not as a replacement for treatment.
  • Seek treatment quickly. Whiplash is not a fun injury (are there any fun injuries?) so the best way to get rid of it sooner rather than later is to seek treatment immediately. Whiplash that goes untreated can quickly turn into chronic pain which is much harder to treat. Do both yourself and your chiropractor a favor by seeking treatment quickly.

The bottom line is that we offer an integrative approach because treating your whiplash is not enough. After a car accident, we want to give you the best opportunity to recover and help you enjoy a higher quality of life. Working together with our chiropractors, the best treatment you can give yourself is this personalized integrative approach.
